"My Monu, my Monu."
This is all Kamrunahar, a resident of Sonapur village of Dhaka Division can say.
It's almost all she has been saying for the past day.
Monu, aka Sayan Yusuf, was her 14-year-old grandson. It was the term of endearment she christened him with when he was born.
A student of class-7 at Milestone School and College, Sayan became one of the victims of the air crash on the school premises on Monday.
He died while undergoing treatment at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Both his parents also work in his school; their lives were spared, if this could even be called "spared".
Sayan was the only son of AFM Yusuf, an assistant professor of chemistry at Milestone College, and Shamima Shammi, also a chemistry teacher at the school.
The family believed that Sayan Yusuf was brilliant and would go abroad for studies to become a scholar.
On Tuesday, friends and family gathered as Sayan's body was brought back to his village in an ambulance.
Kamrunnahar, was inconsolable. She remains so.
"My son was extremely brilliant. There is no safety for life in this country. We will no longer stay here. The politicians of this country have polluted the environment," AFM Yusuf told Dhaka Stream.
At 3:00pm, Sayan was buried beside his grandfather in the family graveyard. Friends, teachers, and villagers attended the janaza.
Mizanur Rahman, a family friend, said, "His parents had a clear path mapped out for his future. They wanted him to study in America. That dream has been shattered."
This crash also claimed another life from the same upazila, Afnan Fayaz, a fellow seventh-grade student from Sonapur village. He was buried earlier in Dhaka.
For now, a shocked silence envelopes the village. Only sobs can be heard.
