At least 13 people were killed across the country as it reeled from the third day of the mass protest amid nationwide curfew, while the internet remained blacked out for the fourth day.
Shutdown suspended, ultimatum issued
Nahid Islam, a key coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced the suspension of complete shutdown for 48-hour and issued another ultimatum to meet four core demands including, the full restoration of internet access nationwide, the immediate withdrawal of the curfew, removal of law enforcement personnel from educational institutions and reopening of all residential halls to create a safe and conducive environment for academic activities, and ensuring safety and security for all coordinators of the quota reform movement across the country.
Government extends restrictions
The government extended both the general holiday and the curfew until July 23, 2024. All government, private, and industrial institutions remained closed.
Business leader backs Hasina
The then-prime minister Sheikh Hasina met with top business leaders in the afternoon. they extended their full support for the then government, and assured that they would stand by her during the crisis.
Coordinators missing, fresh deadline
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement issued a 24-hour ultimatum to locate their four missing coordinators, including Asif Mahmud, Abdul Kader, Abu Bakar Mojumdar, and Rashidul Islam Rifat, and said that if the missing coordinators were not safely returned within the time, they would launch silent protests nationwide.
