In response to the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Hamas has issued a call for mass demonstrations worldwide, urging people to take to the streets against what it describes as deliberate starvation and a suffocating blockade imposed by Israel, reports Al Jazeera.
"We call for continuing and escalating the popular pressure in the cities, capitals and squares on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and all the upcoming days with marches, protests and demonstrations in front of the Zionist and US embassies," Hamas said in a statement on their official social media on Wednesday.
The call comes amid worsening conditions in Gaza, where Israel's ongoing blockade has restricted the entry of essential supplies, including food, medical equipment, and fuel.
The United Nations has raised alarm over the deteriorating humanitarian situation, particularly in hospitals, which are struggling to operate without adequate fuel supplies.
Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, said on Tuesday that recent fuel deliveries have fallen drastically short of what is needed to keep vital services running.
"In the past two days, the UN collected some 300,000 litres from the Karem Abu Salem [Kerem Shalom] crossing," Haq told reporters.
"This is far less than what is needed to sustain operations."
According to UN health partners, the lack of fuel is placing hundreds of lives at risk, including over 100 premature babies whose survival depends on functioning neonatal units.
Haq also noted that more than 100 international health professionals, including surgeons and specialised medical staff, have been denied entry into Gaza since March.
As the crisis intensifies, Hamas hopes global demonstrations will mount pressure on both Israel and its allies, particularly the United States, to lift restrictions and allow the urgent flow of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.
