With the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election on the horizon, the Abid-Hamim-Mayed panel, along with hall union candidates backed by the Bangladesh Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal, pledged on Sunday to build a safe, liveable, and student-friendly campus.
Abidul Islam Khan, the panel's candidate for vice president (VP), led the other candidates in committing to an eight-point charter addressing key student concerns.
Among the core promises were:
- Ensuring a joyful, liveable, and safe campus free from the return of "mass room" and "guest room" culture.
- Resisting any threats to the nation's democracy, independence, and sovereignty.
- Taking effective steps to create a safer and more disciplined environment for female students.
- Securing legal accommodations, nutritious food, healthcare, and hygiene for all students.
The candidates also vowed to combat cyberbullying, misinformation, disinformation, and fake news to ensure a safer online experience for students. Other pledges included improving the academic and research environment, expanding sports and cultural activities, and fostering mutual respect and decorum in student politics.
The oath further stated that if elected, the Chhatra Dal-supported candidates would implement these pledges through transparent and accountable actions.
