An independent panel of observers will be formed to monitor whether the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections are being conducted fairly.
Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the chief returning officer of the DUCSU elections, shared this information at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
He stated the panel will be composed of teachers from Dhaka University, adding that data is currently being collected for this purpose.
Additionally, Jasim Uddin mentioned that letters were sent to departments and institutes on Thursday, asking them to find ways to increase student interest in the DUCSU election.
Returning Officer and head of the Code of Conduct Taskforce Golam Rabbani said that cyberbullying has been the most troubling issue.
He noted that there have been repeated complaints about two Facebook groups, adding tha although the groups were initially shut down, they were later reopened.
Rabbani further said that although a letter was sent to BTRC regarding this matter, they have been unable to shut down the pages.
He warned that those operating the pages would be identified and face punitive action, stating, "We have no choice but to identify and take action against those running these pages. We may move in that direction… These pages are the biggest violators of the code of conduct."
