Dhaka University authorities on Thursday said strict action would be taken against cyberbullying or character assassination of any candidate of the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections.
DU said this in a press release signed by Farukh Mahmud, deputy director of the university's Public Relations Office.
The DUCSU and hall union elections are scheduled to be held on 9 September.
According to the university authority, during the campaigning stage, attempts were made in some cases to bully candidates online, and female candidates in particular are facing various forms of harassment, which is considered a violation of human rights.
Recently, a student named Ali Husen was suspended from the university for six months for issuing a gang-rape threat against a female candidate on social media.
Returning officers have stated that no leniency will be shown regarding cyberbullying or smear campaigns centring the DUCSU and hall union elections.
