Every person involved in shooting and killing students and members of the public during the July Uprising will be tried according to international legal standards, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor.
He added that trials would be completely fair and transparent from now on.
He made the remarks at a discussion held at Manarat International University (MIU) in Ashulia on August 10. The event was organised to commemorate the two martyred students on the concluding day of a fortnight-long program to mark the anniversary of the July Revolution 2024.
"In the past, kangaroo courts were used to condemn many people to death by hanging. We do not want this kind of judicial system in Bangladesh. Foreign consultants have been hired to ensure this, so no one can complain about kangaroo courts."
Alam also said, "If justice is to be done, time is required. If we try in a hurry, the international community will later say that it was unjust and forced. So we must be patient. Every murderer will be tried, no one will be left out. This is our promise to the martyrs."
He also reminded, "We were slaves of the Sheikh family. The July fighters were martyred to free and build a democratic country. We want to move forward with that goal."
Urging everyone to vote in the national elections to be held in February, he assured it would be the most free, transparent and festive election in the nation's history.
Also present at the event was former president of Dhaka University Shibir Abu Shadik Kayem.
"Even after a year, the expected progress has not been made. A complete list of martyrs and their families has not been prepared, nor have they been rehabilitated or honored. The state must take responsibility for the treatment and rehabilitation of the injured and disabled. There is a demand to bring the associates of the murderer Hasina to justice."
The programme was chaired by MIU Vice-Chancellor Mohammad Abdur Rob.
Earlier on the same day, tributes were paid to two MIU students that were martyred during the July Uprising – Shakil Hossain Parvez and Ahnaf Abir Ashrafullah.
Shakil's father Belayet Hossain inaugurated a Chottor near the campus entrance named after his martyred son.
At the same time, Ahnaf's mother Asiya Khatun inaugurated a library named after her martyred son.
A tree plantation programme was also held in memory of the two at noon.
