Unidentified people carried out an attack on the residence of Bangabir Kader Siddique Bir Uttam, also president of the Krishak Sramik Janata League, in Tangail early on Sunday.
Two cars were vandalised during the attack.
Around 12:30am, a group of 15–20 people wearing helmets and armed with local weapons launched the assault, reports a Tangail correspondent.
The caretaker of the house said, "Sir [Kader Siddique] was asleep on the second floor. The attackers hurled bricks and stones at the house. Three of them climbed over the gate using a ladder, entered the compound, vandalised two cars and attempted to set them on fire. When we came out with sticks, they fled by climbing back over the gate. They had their faces covered with helmets and towels. All of them were carrying weapons such as machetes and cleavers. After about 20–25 minutes, they left."

Photos also showed broken windows of the Sonar Bangla Community Centre housed on the first floor of the building.
Tangail Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tanvir Ahmed said police have launched an investigation into the incident and that those involved will soon be identified and brought under the law.
