Asaduzzaman Tuhin, 38, Gazipur staff reporter for the Dainik Protidiner Kagoj, was viciously hacked to death in Gazipur around 8:00pm on Thursday in front of the Masjid Market at the Chandana intersection, one of the busiest in the city.
Tuhin was sitting at a tea stall when a group of miscreants surrounded him and, in full view of bystanders, attacked with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.
He died on the spot.
Shaheen Khan, officer-in-charge of Bason Police Station, said police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. He added that efforts are underway to determine a motive.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Anwar Hossain Sourav, 35, a staff reporter for Bangladesher Alo, was reportedly attacked by extortionists in front of police and left in critical condition in Gazipur's Sahapara area.
He was investigating allegations that auto-rickshaw drivers were being extorted by miscreants when he was attacked.
In a video of the brutal incident that has gone viral, police personnel can be seen in the background, refusing to interfere, while more than dozen people were attacking Sourav.
