Leaders and activists of the BNP have been accused of beating a man to death over him demanding dues of an office space he had rented out to the party in Narayanganj's Araihazar.
The victim, Md Jahangir Bhuiyan, 57, was killed on Wednesday morning in Mahmudpur Union of the upazila.
What happened: Jahangir's son, Russel Bhuiyan, claimed that 12 individuals, including former general secretary of Mahmudpur Union BNP Tota Member, were involved in the incident.

Russel claimed that on August 5 Tota Member rented the office space from Jahangir.

The office space was rented for BNP's Economic Affairs Assistant Secretary Mahmudur Rahman Sumon.

On the morning of July 30, when Jahangir went to demand the rent dues of Tk10,000, Tota allegedly refused.

According to Russel, Tota (70) and his son Khokon (35), along with others, beat up Jahangir.

Jahangir was later taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Jahangir was the general secretary of the Matsyajeebi Dal.
What police say: Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station Khondokar Nasir Uddin stated that several shops were combined to set up an office there.

One of the shops belonged to Jahangir.

When he went to demand the rent in the morning, a scuffle broke out.

Later, Jahangir was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the incident.

OC Nasir Uddin did not specify the involvement of BNP or its activists.
What BNP says: Mahmudur Rahman Sumon told Dhaka Stream he was aware of the incident.

"I have heard about it. The deceased was my man. Whatever the incident was, I want justice for this," he said.

Araihazar Upazila BNP President Yusuf Ali Member said, "Whoever the culprit is, we want his justice. If he is associated with the party, we will also take action against him as a party member."
