The United States has deported 39 Bangladeshi nationals for residing in the country without legal status.
According to the immigration police, the deportees arrived in Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday morning.
A day earlier, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a document stating that 61 Bangladeshi nationals were scheduled to be deported on a US military aircraft, referencing an email from the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC.
However, only 39 individuals were ultimately sent back.
The deportation was carried out as part of a broader campaign by US immigration authorities.
Since taking office in January, the Trump administration has ramped up its drive to remove undocumented migrants and return them to their native countries.
The drives have often been criticised for their lack of clarity, sometimes targeting US citizens with proper documentation. Many have slated the move as being racist in nature.
