Several hundred students of the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) held a silent march on Thursday evening, demanding justice for an attack by outsiders on fellow students and.
As part of the programme, titled "Red March for Justice," participants used red cloth to cover their eyes, symbolising how the authority had turned a blind eye to the events of August 31.
That day, during an academic council meeting, students locked teachers inside the venue for nearly seven hours in protest. At around 8:00pm, a group of outsiders suddenly attacked the protesting students, detonated crude bombs, and vandalised important university infrastructure.
Several students, including female students, were injured in the incident.
Thursday's march began at Amtola, near the administrative building, passed through the main corridor, and ended at the convocation square.
As they marched, students called for a thorough investigation and punishment of those responsible for the attack.
Meera, a protesting student from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, said, "Our eyes are closed, just like the administration's eyes are closed to our suffering. They are blind to the brutality we faced. Through this program, we're showing them our stance and demanding fair justice."
Since the attack, students have been holding various protest programmes.
However, after getting assurances from the administration on September 2, the protest was temporarily suspended.
"On September 2, during discussions with the administration, we placed a six-point demand. We were given written assurances about reopening the dormitories and not harassing protesters," Abdullah Al Noman, another protesting student, stated.
However, he added that the administration had not lived up to their end of that bargain.
"Instead of providing us assurances in writing, they are calling for more discussions. We will not sit for another discussion until the administration formally provides those assurances in writing. We also demand the reformation of the investigation committee to include the August 31 attack by outsiders."
