BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman is set to return to Bangladesh in December this year, his foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir said in Sylhet on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters at an event in Sylhet, Kabir said Tarique will return between November and December as the schedule for the 13 th parliamentary election is likely to be announced at the end of the year.
"His security arrangements are being treated with utmost importance," Kabir said, speaking to media.
He added that the international community has shown renewed interest in the BNP and its leadership.
Kabir further noted that Tarique Rahman plans to contest in the upcoming election and currently faces no legal barriers to his candidacy.
"Under Tarique Rahman's leadership, the party is preparing to participate in the next general election. If BNP wins and forms the government, he will become the next prime minister," he stated.
