Police have intensified security measures in the Dhanmondi 32 area of the capital ahead of August 15, marking the 50th death anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Even as early as 9:00pm on August 14, the lakeside road, where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's house stood for decades before being razed in the aftermath of the July Uprising, was teeming with law enforcers.
Since Thursday afternoon, additional security personnel were deployed at all major entry points to the area.
Numerous people were holding processions and chanting slogans at that time.
However, by 11:00pm, barricades were put up on either side of the road. Yet, eager crowds continued to hover.

A mob roughed up three people, suspected of being Awami League loyalists, and handed them over to the police
Videos of the mob attack have since gone viral on social media.
Once police intervened, the mob handed the three over to them.
SI Aqib Noor confirmed this to the daily Prothom Alo, adding that the case is being investigated.
On August 15 last year, chaotic scenes unfolded at Dhanmondi 32 as several people were attacked due to the belief that they were AL loyalists who were believed to be paying tribute to Bangabandhu.
Some were even tied up before being handed over to law enforcers.
Local reports estimated as many as 30 individuals had been attacked there that day.
Members of the mob also stopped and questioned pedestrians, checked their phones, and prevented people from taking photos of their misdeeds.
Authorities have said that security efforts will remain in place through 15 August to avoid any untoward incidents.
