Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has handed over the deed of a three-katha plot in Purbachal to Mahir Sarowar Megh, son of the late journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
At the plot deed handover ceremony at the State Guest House Jamuna on Thursday afternoon, the chief adviser inquired about the progress of the investigation into the Sagar-Runi murder case.
"Such prolonged delays in investigations create frustration among people and erode public confidence in the justice system," Yunus said, instructing the authorities concerned to conclude the probe quickly.
During the ceremony, Megh presented the chief adviser with a jersey and a bag that he had personally designed.
Media reports indicate that Sagar applied for the plot in 2004 and received the allocation in 2005. Despite completing full payment in 2009, the previous Awami League government did not transfer possession to his family.
At present, the legal heirs of the plot are Sagar's mother, Saleha Monir, and his son, Megh.
At the event, Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said that the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) found that the prolonged investigation has allowed many pieces of evidence to be destroyed.
