The 'polytechnic students' movement' sought an apology from National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, terming their comments expressing solidarity with the 'engineering rights movement' as 'irresponsible'.
They also warned of a complete boycott of the NCP if an apology was not issued.
"We want to make it clear that if Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam do not publicly apologise in the next few hours, all government and private polytechnic and TSC students and diploma engineers and their families in the country will completely boycott the NCP."
This information was given in a press release signed by Sabbir Ahmed, office secretary of the Polytechnic Students Movement Bangladesh, on Thursday afternoon.
"NCP leader Sarjis Alam used the word 'quota' while expressing solidarity with the 'Engineering Rights Movement'. On the other hand, Hasnat Abdullah termed their unreasonable demands as justified. We strongly condemn such irresponsible statements," the press release read.
"The Sub-Assistant Engineer Grade 10 does not fall under a quota. This is a specialized post. The only qualification for entry here is a diploma in Engineering, as stated in the Presidential Ordinance of 1978 and the Prime Minister's Notification of 1994."
