Police on Wednesday (6 August) blocked a procession by the Jatiya Ganatantrik Party aiming to lay siege to the Indian embassy in the capital's Badda area, centring its demand to send Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.
Since fleeing on 5 August, Hasina has taken refuge in India.
The procession reached the Gulshan-Badda Link Road, where law enforcers prevented them from going further.
Later, the party leaders and activists ended their programme with a short rally there.
The road had been blocked for around 45 minutes from 11:30am, leading to gridlocks in the area.
Speaking at the rally, JAGPA Vice President and Spokesperson Rashed Pradhan said, "The families of thousands of martyrs, millions of July fighters, and the people of Bangladesh want an answer to one question today — why did India shelter the dictatorial murderer Sheikh Hasina?"
He said Delhi should send Hasina back immediately.
"India must also stop killing Bangladeshis on the border. The push-in policy will not work either. The territory occupied by India must be returned immediately."
Rashed also said: "If India does not send back the murderer Hasina, then no obstacle will be tolerated this time. The Indian embassy will be surrounded."
Speaking to Stream, Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said, "The police have the situation under control. Jagpa leaders and activists left the road at around 12:15 pm at the request of the police. Traffic is gradually returning to normal."
