The Election Commission (EC) has said that no general diary (GD) needs to be filed if the National Identity Card (NID) is lost from now on.
A notification in this regard, signed by Assistant Director (Valid and Verify) Muhammad Sarwar Hossain of EC's NID Wing, was issued by the EC on Wednesday.
According to the notification, the provision of submitting a GD is exempted to get the second NID in case of losing the first one, as per the decision of the EC to make the NID services easier and hassle-free.
Under the NID correction crash programme, the EC processed 907,662 correction applications in the first six months of 2025. During the same period, a total of 984,356 applications were submitted.
EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said that the initiative has significantly reduced citizens' difficulties regarding NID corrections.
