Law Adviser Asif Nazrul on Monday said the national election would be held in February as announced by the government.
"There is no scope for postponing the election," he stated while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat.
"We trust the judgment of our political parties, especially those who supported the July uprising."
He further added, "There have been disagreements among them (the parties) before on various issues, and those disagreements have also been resolved. Differences in opinion may exist, but at critical moments, we will definitely see unity among them."
He stressed that elections would be held in February.
"From the government's side, we are determined to hold the election in February. Our chief adviser has repeatedly stated this. The Election Commission has been instructed accordingly. They are taking all necessary steps. As for the prior disagreements and differences of opinion, we hope those will be resolved," the legal adviser continued.
He also stated that there is no discussion about forming a caretaker government during the election period.
"You are talking about 'ifs and buts'. The government's position on the election has been made clear multiple times. We are firmly committed to holding the election in February. All our state activities are moving forward with this goal in mind. There is no room to step back."
When asked about the National Citizens Party's (NCP) demand for a Constituent Assembly election before the national election, he said, "That's a party statement from the NCP. I have nothing to say about their party's stance. I've shared the government's position."
When asked about the country's law and order situation, the adviser asserted, "The law and order situation has at times deteriorated over the past year and at times improved. In a post-revolutionary context, various kinds of unrest tend to occur in society. Given such unrest, occasional deterioration in law and order, though unfortunate and disappointing, is not something unusual."
"We've handled such situations before, and things got better. InshaAllah, they'll get better again."
