The government has extended the tenure of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) by one month, pushing the new deadline to September 15 this year.
A notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, was issued on Monday night in this regard.
On February 12, the seven-member commission was formed which was asked to submit its report within six months.
The commission began work on February 15 and its tenure was supposed to end on August 15.
The commission was tasked with considering and adopting the recommendations of the six reform commissions. Professor Ali Riaz was made the vice chairman of the commission.
The members include Public Administration Reform Commission Head Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Police Reform Commission Head Safar Raj Hossain, Election Reform Commission Head Badiul Alam Majumdar, Judiciary Reform Commission Head Justice Emdadul Haque, and ACC Reform Commission Head Iftekharuzzaman.
The commission is in discussions with political parties and forces to reach a national consensus for considering and adopting recommendations from the commissions formed for reforms related to police operations, the electoral process, public administration, the judiciary, and anti-corruption measures in light of the upcoming elections.
Earlier, the NCC discussed with experts to ensure the legal binding of the July National Charter and find ways to implement the charter at the LD Hall of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday.
NCC Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, Members Justice Emdadul Haque, Iftekharuzzaman, Badiul Alam Majumder, Safar Raj Hossain, Ayub Mia and Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Manir Haider were present at the time.
Retired Supreme Court Justice MA Matin, Moinul Islam Chowdhury, Dhaka University Law Faculty Dean Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court Sharif Bhuiyan, Barrister Tanim Hussain Shawon, and Barrister Imran Siddique participated as experts.
