Sporting institutions and athletes from various disciplines have expressed profound grief over the tragic plane crash at the campus of Milestone School and College in Uttara on Monday afternoon, which claimed at least 19 lives and left over 164 injured.
Bangladeshi cricket player Tamim Iqbal Khan requested media platforms not telecast bloodied images of victims. "What has happened and is happening is extremely painful. Our hearts are breaking; we are devastated.
"For now, a request to the journalists, especially those in TV and digital media, please refrain from showing live images or videos of the injured and bloodied children. If you have to show those pictures, and videos, kindly at least blur them."
Bangladesh T20I captain Litton Das posted on his official Facebook page saying, "Prayers and heartfelt thoughts go out to everyone affected by the Uttara Milestone School and College incident. May peace, healing, and strength find their way to the victims and their families."
National cricketer Mustafizur Rahman echoed those sentiments, writing on his verified Facebook account, "Saddened to hear the tragic news of the aircraft crash at Milestone School. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragic incident."
Another national cricketer, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, wrote, "Prayers for Uttara Milestone College," on a Facebook post regarding the tragic incident.
"They are our children. All our prayers are for them."
Another Bangladeshi cricketer, Tawhid Hridoy, wrote on his social media handle, "There can be no news more heartbreaking than this. The suffering of these innocent children is unbearable. Let us all pray together to the pain of the injured."
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) expressed its condolences in a press release.
"The Bangladesh Cricket Board is deeply shocked by the casualties from the tragic air crash at the Milestone School and College premises in Dhaka. The BCB extends deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this devastating incident."
Bangladesh Football Federation President Tabith Awal also expressed solidarity through the federation's verified Facebook page.
"We are deeply shocked and devastated to hear about the tragic event at Milestone College in Dhaka. We extended our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this devastating incident."
