The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court has ordered the imprisonment of 16 people, including former minister and expelled Awami League member Abdul Latif Siddiqui.
A case was filed against the 16 people, also including Dhaka University law professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman and journalist Manjurul Alam, under the Anti-Terrorism Act in the early hours of Friday, more than 12 hours after they were detained from a roundtable discussion at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) auditorium.
As Latifur was speaking at the event, a group of people entered and began chanting slogans. They then began to tear up banners and barricaded the participants.
When a police team arrived, the mob handed over at least 16 people to the police.
The DRU issued a statement yesterday evening condemning and protesting the attacks on the discussion meeting and journalists.
