Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) seized 28 buses of Rajdhani Paribahan on Tuesday evening after a female student was allegedly pushed off a moving bus by a helper near the Savar Thana Stand.
The incident occurred around 5:30pm when Halima Khatun, a student of the Public Administration Department (50th batch), was boarding a Rajdhani bus to return to the university after her tuition.
According to her statement posted on Facebook, the bus helper asked her destination twice. Upon confirming she was going to Jahangirnagar, the helper allegedly pushed her off the vehicle, which had already started moving. Halima fell and suffered injuries to her leg.
"I fell from the moving bus and got hurt badly. This is not the first time I've faced such behaviour," she wrote.
Following the incident, agitated JU students began stopping Rajdhani Paribahan buses near the university's main gate from around 6:45pm. The seized buses were later moved to the area beside the university's central playground.
The injured student received primary treatment at the JU medical centre, and the university authority later transferred her to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for an X-ray.
Speaking to Stream, JU Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam condemned the incident. "This is an inhumane act. The transport company has contacted us and assured us they will meet us on Wednesday. We will discuss the matter and take necessary actions," he said.
