The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami formally sent its congratulations to Pope Leo XIV at an event in the capital on Thursday (11 September).
Attending the Pope's Feast in the capital's Baridhara, party Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar handed over the congratulatory note to Vatican Ambassador Archbishop Kevin Randall on behalf of its Ameer, Shafiqur Rahman.
The congratulatory message expressed the expectation of working jointly for mutual respect between Muslims and Christians, peaceful coexistence, building a justice-based society, and the welfare of global humanity.
The event was attended by diplomats from various countries, political leaders, and prominent members of civil society. On the occasion, Jamaat's Secretary General exchanged greetings with different representatives of the diplomatic community. They expressed hope that such initiatives would play a significant role in improving mutual relations and establishing global peace.
