The finalised version of the July Declaration will be presented to the nation during a ceremony in front of the National Parliament on the evening of 5 August, the government announced on Sunday.
The Press Information Department in a notification requested all government and private television channels and electronic media to broadcast, in scrolling text, the message: "The draft of the July Declaration has been finalised and will be presented to the nation at 5:00pm on 5 August."
On his verified Facebook page, the chief adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam invited everyone to be part of a daylong event celebrating "36 July" at Manik Mia Avenue.
On 5 August 2024 a student-led mass uprising ousted the Awami League regime. The day is also called 36 July by those in the movement to signify a continued struggle that started in mid-July 2024.
The same post by Alam stated, "'36 July' — on this day last year, an unprecedented mass uprising took place in Bangladesh, which liberated the country from fascist rule. The public, following the blood of martyrs and the path of the nation's selfless fighters, rose up across the country. The streets and roads were flooded with jubilant crowds, offering thanks to the Creator. One year later, the historic 'Thirty-six July' has returned. To mark the occasion, an all-day event titled 'Celebration of 36 July' will take place at Manik Mia Avenue on 5 August."
According to the PID notification, the event will begin at 11:00am. The main highlight — the reading of the July Declaration — will take place at 5:00pm. The event will conclude at 8:00pm with a musical performance by the popular band Artcell.
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs is the main organiser of the event. The Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is assisting with event management, with support from the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat.
The interim government finalised the July Declaration after incorporating views from the BNP and other major political parties. A nationwide consensus has been reached among key parties regarding the official and constitutional recognition of this declaration.
