Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced it will hold peaceful protests in all districts and metropolitan cities tomorrow in response to attacks on the National Citizen Party centring its rally in Gopalganj, which was allegedly carried out by Awami League men.
It also called for legal action against the perpetrators and united resistance against fascism, urging all Jamaat members and the general public to observe the announced programme tomorrow.
A statement attributed to its Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar was released through the party's verified Facebook page.
Accomplices of the "fallen Awami League fascists" attacked the pre-announced 'March to Gopalganj' programme of the NCP in Gopalganj district, the statement read.
Condemning the attack, it continued, "It is the responsibility of the administration to cooperate in implementing programmes of any political party. But effective action by the law enforcement agencies could not be observed. This is worrying.
"Gopalganj is not a district separate from Bangladesh. It is a part of Bangladesh. The government must play an effective role in maintaining law and order throughout Bangladesh, including Gopalganj."
Although the fascist regime was ousted by a mass uprising, the country is not yet free from fascism, the statement added.
"The fallen dictator Sheikh Hasina had been ruling the country for 15 and a half years. They are again carrying out evil activities to destabilise the country. As part of that, today, cocktail explosions and vandalism were carried out at the NCP's pre-announced programme. Awami League miscreants vandalised and set fire to vehicles of law enforcers."
The secretary general of Jamaat urged relevant authorities to quickly arrest those involved, bring them to justice, and punish them appropriately.
