According to witnesses and officials from the Fire Service and Civil Defence, the fire began around 6:15am and quickly spread to adjacent shops and structures.
Three units from Chandna Chowrasta Modern Fire Service responded immediately, and were later joined by two additional units from Gazipur as the flames intensified, said Mohammad Mamun, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Firefighters successfully contained the blaze by 7:20am after concerted efforts.
