Firefighters doused a blaze on the fifth floor of Sundarban Square Market in the capital's Gulistan after an hour-long effort on Saturday morning.
"As it is a market of electronics, and there were plastic products and mobile accessories, the fire created heavy smoke. The warehouses on the fifth floor caught fire. Firefighters entered the place despite the risks and found out where the fire started. And finally, the fire was brought under control around 11:12am," Kazi Nazmuzzaman, assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, told reporters at the scene.
Talha Bin Zasim, a fire service spokesperson, informed that the fire was reported around 10:00am, with the first unit reaching the scene within three minutes.
He added that 11 firefighting units brought the blaze under control by 11:10am.
The cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are still unknown. So far, no injuries or casualties have been reported.
