The holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, commemorating the birth and demise anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), will be observed on Saturday across the country with due religious solemnity.
The decision was taken at the meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee, held on August 24 at the Islamic Foundation (IF) Conference Room at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, with Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik in the chair.
On the 12th of Rabiul Awal in 570 Hijri, Prophet Muhammad (SM) was born in Makkah, bringing divine blessings and a message of peace for mankind. He also passed away on the same day in 632 Hijri.
The government has declared a general holiday on Saturday to mark the occasion.
On the eve of the day, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus will issue separate messages greeting the people of Bangladesh and Muslims across the world.
Marking the day, Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast special programmes, and different national dailies will publish supplements highlighting the significance of the day.
The national flag will be hoisted at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, private buildings and military establishments throughout the country.
Under the initiative of the Islamic Foundation, a range of programmes has been scheduled nationwide, including at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
