Education Adviser CR Abrar has explained why the government announcement that the Higher Secondary Certificate examinations had been postponed arrived hours before they were set to commence on July 22.
While speaking to journalists at the secretariat, he said that members of the advisory council had been corresponding with Singapore till late night on July 21 in order to provide improved treatment to those injured by the deadly crash of a BAF aircraft at Milestone School and College that afternoon.
"We (members of the advisory council) returned home late at night after discussing about treatment when the issue of the examination came to light. Accordingly, we discussed it with some other advisers because nobody has the authority to make a decision on the examinations alone" the adviser clarified.
"Though we took time to postpone the examinations, we took the decision in due time. The examinations were postponed following due procedure", he added.
Replying to a query, the education adviser said that although students demanded his resignation, the issue falls under the Chief Adviser's jurisdiction.
He also said he did not know why Siddiq Zubair, the senior secretary of the education ministry, had been withdrawn.
Abrar also said the demands raised by the students of the Milestone School and College were rational.
