Chittagong University has postponed all exams for Sunday following a violent clash between students and local residents.
The decision was announced by university authorities early Sunday morning to ensure student safety.
CU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamal Uddin confirmed the postponement, citing concerns over the overall situation on campus. "Considering the safety of students and the current circumstances, all exams scheduled for today have been postponed. Further decisions regarding rescheduling will be announced later," he said.
The clash reportedly erupted around 1:30am on Sunday, around two hours after a female student was assaulted by a security guard of her building near the campus. Nearly 50 students suffered injuries, 20 of whom were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Some injuries were reportedly caused by sharp weapons.
Professor Tanvir Mohammad Haider Arif, proctor of CU, stated that students trapped in various flats during the incident were rescued.
"We are currently holding a meeting at the VC office regarding this. The chairman and members of the area have been called. DGFI and NSI have been informed. The next decision on this matter will be taken after consulting everyone."
