Bangladesh Army formed a court of inquiry against an officer following allegations of political involvement, brought forward by a law enforcement agency.
Upon receiving the allegation, the Bangladesh Army took immediate action, considering the matter with utmost importance, according to a media release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate on Friday.
The officer was then taken into military custody from his residence in the Uttara area of the capital on July 17.
A court of inquiry has already been formed to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
Preliminary findings have reportedly substantiated the allegation, according to the ISPR media release.
Upon completion of the full investigation, the media release said, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against him under military laws and regulations.
Coordination is also underway with Bangladesh Police and other relevant law enforcement agencies, the release added.
A separate court of inquiry has also been constituted to investigate the officer's absence from duty in his office.
Based on the findings and recommendations of that inquiry, legal action will be taken under the 'command responsibility' as per military law.
The Bangladesh Army reiterated its stance as a strictly apolitical, disciplined and professional institution.
Any involvement of military personnel in political activities will be dealt with under military law.
The Bangladesh Army remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and constitutional responsibilities among all its members, the media release stressed.
