Bangladesh Agricultural University has taken disciplinary action against 133 individuals, including 57 teachers, for their participation in a procession titled "Sheikh Hasinay Aastha" (Trust in Sheikh Hasina) on August 4 last year and for oppressing and abusing teachers and students during the mass uprising.
On Monday evening, the university's Vice-Chancellor AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to Stream.
According to sources in the university administration, this decision was made during the 328th syndicate meeting held on May 18 of this year.
On July 14, Bhuiyan approved the implementation of the decision.
Among teachers, six were suspended, 12 dismissed, eight demoted, and 31 reprimanded. Among officials, eight were expelled, eight dismissed, seven reprimanded, and one was fined 5 lakh taka. Among staff, two were suspended and 19 were reprimanded.
Among students, seven have been permanently expelled, and the certificates of 24 students have been cancelled. The certificate of Khondaker Tayefur Rahman, president of the BAU unit of Chhatra League, has also been revoked.
The six teachers who have been suspended are former proctor Md Azharul Islamo of the Department of Environmental Science; Purba Islam of the Department of Pharmacology; Afrina Mustari of the Department of Physiology; former Vice-Chancellor of Kurigram Agricultural University and professor of the Department of Crop Botany AKM Zakir Hossain; Md Akhtar Hossain Chowdhury of the Department of Agricultural Chemistry; and Md Nazmul Hasan Siddiqui of the Department of Anatomy and Histology.
The 12 teachers who have been dismissed are Mohammad Sajjad Hossain of the Department of Aquaculture, Md Abu Hadi Nur Ali Khan of the Department of Pathology, Nasrin Sultana Juyena of the Department of Surgery and Obstetrics, Mohammad Mohi Uddin of the Department of Animal Nutrition, Md Harun-ur-Rashid of the Department of Dairy Science, Lecturer Hamidur Rahman of Department of Aquaculture, Md Shafiqul Islam of the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, Lecturer Md Abul Bashar of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Ujjal Kumar Nath of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Subash Chandra Das of the Department of Poultry Science, Mohammad Moniruzzaman of the Department of Animal Science, and M.A.M. Yahia Khandoker of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics.
The individuals who have been demoted to lower positions are Chayon Goswami of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Rezwanul Haque of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Rakhi Chakraborty of the Institute of Information and Food Sciences, Mohammad Al-Mamun of the Department of Animal Nutrition, Khan Md Saiful Islam of the Department of Animal Nutrition, Muhammad Mohir Uddin of the Department of Entomology, Shirin Akhter of the Department of Parasitology, and Md Mahbubur Rahman of the Department of Entomology.
