Demanding the introduction of 10th-grade positions in the Department of Agricultural Extension, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and other research institutions exclusively for agriculturists, and Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) students in Mymensingh staged a railway blockade as part of their "Agriculture Blockade" programme.
Around 11:30am on Sunday, students began their protest by stopping the Dhaka-bound Haor Express train and occupying the railway tracks.
Responding to the hardship faced by passengers and requests from patients, they allowed the train to depart after an hour but continued their protest on the tracks.
Later, at around 1:00pm, they blocked the Netrokona-bound Mohua Commuter train.
The blockade ended at 3:45pm after students were assured that a meeting with the Agriculture Adviser would be held on the upcoming Tuesday.
Train services resumed after four hours of disruption.
The three-point demand of the students are:
- The 10th-grade posts (such as sub-assistant agriculture officer/sub-assistant scientific officer/equivalent) in the DAE, BADC, and other research institutions must be given exclusively to agriculturists.
- No promotion to 9th-grade positions should be allowed without passing the recruitment examination.
- A government notification must be issued stating that no one may use the title "Krishibid" (Agriculturist) without a bachelor's degree in agriculture or an agriculture-related subject.
