The Bangladesh Ganotantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BAGCHAS) on Friday announced its panel for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election at a press conference.
Arifuzzaman Uzzal (47th batch) from the marketing department has been nominated for the post of Vice President (VP), and Abu Tawhid Siam (49th batch) from the International Relations department for the post of General Secretary (GS), under the banner "Shikkharthi Oikya Forum" (Student Unity Forum),
The announcement was made by Hojrot Ali, uncle of Shaheed Nafisa Marwa, who died during the July mass uprising.
BAGCHAS nominated Ziauddin Ayan (50th batch) from the Government and Politics Depatment and Maliha Namlah (50th batch) from the Journalism and Media Studies Depatment for the two Assistant General Secretary (AGS) positions, which are gender-specific (one male, one female).
Among the editorial positions, the nominations are as follows:
· Education and Research Secretary: Farhana Binte Zigar Farina
· Environment and Nature Conservation Secretary: Sajjad Hossain
· Literature and Publications Secretary: Marjiur Rahman Chowdhury
· Cultural Secretary: Raid Hossain
· Assistant Cultural Secretary: Fatema Tuz Zohra Boishakhi
· Assistant Sports Secretary (Female): Sabikun Nahar Polly
· Assistant Sports Secretary (Male): Ring Yong Murong Rupom
· IT and Library Secretary: Nokib Al Mahmud Arnob
· Social Welfare and Human Resource Development Secretary: Ahsan Labib
· Assistant Social Welfare Secretary (Female): Nadia Rahman Onnesha
· Assistant Social Welfare Secretary (Male): Kazi Mehrab Turjo
· Health and Food Safety Secretary: Nasim Al Tariq
· Transport and Communication Secretary: Nahid Hasan Emon
The candidates nominated for Executive Member positions are: Prishtee Khan, Tanzila Tasnim Setu, Afia Ibnat Samiha, Sadat Hane Islam, Jamin Ahmed, and Mohammad Ali Chishti.
As footballer Mahmudul Hasan Kiron, player of the Bangladesh U-23 National Football and Futsal teams, has submitted a nomination for the Sports Secretary post, BAGCHAS did not nominate a candidate for that role.
The Drama Secretary position has also been left vacant and will be filled through co-option.
At the press conference, Arifuzzaman Uzzal, president of BAGCHAS JU unit, said, "We have announced an inclusive panel. Besides the reserved seats for female students, several other positions have also been given to female candidates."
