A court on Wednesday placed economist and former chairman of the state-owned Janata Bank PLC, Abul Barkat, on a two-day remand in a case lodged over embezzlement of Tk 297 crore from the bank by AnonTex Group, reports BSS.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the order as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) sought to place him on a three-day remand in the case.
Earlier, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Abul Barkat from the capital's Dhanmondi area on July 10.
On February 20, the ACC filed the case against 23 people, including Abul Barkat and Bangladesh Bank's former governor, Atiur Rahman, over the embezzlement.
