BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday expressed concern over the conduct of law enforcement personnel in light of the recent attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.
"If law enforcement agencies continue to attack our leaders like this even after the uprising, then think of what they are doing to the common people. I cannot accept this in any way," he told reporters after visiting Nur at Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the afternoon.
"The judicial investigation authorised by the chief adviser should be completed swiftly, and necessary measures should be taken. I urge the government that he [Nur] should be sent outside the country for better treatment."
Nur is currently being treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with head injuries and a broken nose.
"It is clear that those who carried out the attack on Nur intended to kill him," Fakhrul said.
Two days ago, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi termed the brutal attack on Nurul Haque Nur a pre-planned attempt on his life.
Nur was severely beaten by law enforcement personnel after a clash between the GOP and Jatiyo Party activists on Friday night in Dhaka's Kakrail area, where both parties' central offices are located.
He further said that the judicial investigation commission formed to look into the attack on Nurul Haque should complete its task swiftly and take necessary measures.
Before he was attacked, the GOP conducted a protest rally demanding a ban on Jatiyo Party, claiming that it wanted to rehabilitate the Awami League, which was ousted from power by a student-led mass uprising.
